GeekTabs Chrome extension

Privacy Policy for GeekTabs

This is the privacy policy for GeekTabs, the Chrome extension published by Geekmaze Software Private Limited. It explains what the extension handles, what stays on your device, and what is sent elsewhere only if you choose to sign in, sync, back up, or activate a license.

Last updated: 21 October 2026. This page is the policy linked from the Chrome Web Store listing for GeekTabs.

You can use GeekTabs without an account. Saved tabs stay in your browser unless you sign in with Google or connect Dropbox. GeekTabs does not sell personal information and does not use it for advertising.

Who we are

GeekTabs is operated by Geekmaze Software Private Limited, Pongummood, Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala, India. Privacy requests go to contact@geekmaze.in.

GeekTabs is a tab manager. It lets you group tabs into spaces and collections, save and reopen them, work with bookmarks and sessions, and optionally sync that saved data between browsers.

Information that stays on your device

By default, GeekTabs stores your work in Chrome’s extension storage on the device. That local copy includes:

Uninstalling GeekTabs removes this local extension storage. We do not receive it unless you use one of the optional features below.

Browser data the extension reads

GeekTabs uses Chrome permissions to do the job of a tab manager. This access happens in your browser. Open tabs, bookmarks, and browsing history are not uploaded to Geekmaze. A page is included in a cloud copy only if you save it into a space or collection and then turn on Google sync or a Dropbox backup.

Permission Why GeekTabs uses it
Tabs, tab groups, and windows List, open, focus, close, and group tabs, including across windows.
Bookmarks Show and update Chrome bookmarks when you use bookmark features. The full bookmark library is not uploaded.
History When you open history in GeekTabs, read Chrome browsing history on the device so it can be displayed. That history is not sent to Geekmaze, Firebase, or Dropbox.
Storage Save spaces, collections, settings, and session data on the device.
Identity Only if you choose Google sign-in, to complete that sign-in.

If you sign in with Google

Sign-in is optional. GeekTabs requests only your email address and basic profile (your name and profile photo). It does not request Gmail, Google Drive, or other Google data.

We use that information to:

Your account id, email, name, and profile photo are stored in Chrome’s extension storage. The access token used for that sign-in is revoked when you sign out.

GeekTabs’ use and transfer to any other app of information received from Google APIs will adhere to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements. We use Google account data only to provide GeekTabs. We do not sell it, use it for advertising, or use it to train generalized models.

If you turn on cloud sync

After you sign in, realtime sync to Google Firebase (Cloud Firestore) is on unless you turn it off in Settings. The copy stored for your account includes your spaces, collections (including titles, URLs, and favicons of tabs you saved), and your settings. It does not include your Chrome browsing history or your full bookmark library.

Settings can include optional Dropbox application credentials if you typed them in. Those values are stored with your other settings and, while sync is on, are included in the Firebase copy. You can clear them in Settings.

Firebase is operated by Google. We store this copy so your saved spaces and collections can open in other browsers where you are signed in to GeekTabs.

If you connect Dropbox

Dropbox backup is optional. If you connect it, GeekTabs stores an access token on the device and uploads a backup file to your own Dropbox account. That file contains the saved spaces, collections, and settings you are backing up. Disconnecting removes the token from the extension. Files already in your Dropbox remain there until you delete them.

If you activate a license

If you enter a license key, GeekTabs sends that key, the extension version, the time of the request, and a one-way device fingerprint hash to our license service at api.geektabs.com. The hash is calculated on your device from basic browser characteristics such as language, time zone, and screen size. We receive the hash, not those underlying values. We use this to check that the key is valid and to limit sharing of one key across many installations.

If you are signed in, we also store license status in Firebase with your account id and email: whether it is active, the key, the license type, and the activation and expiry dates.

How we use information

We do not sell personal information. We do not use GeekTabs data for advertising. The extension does not include a third-party analytics service. We do not send your browsing history to our servers.

Who else processes it

We do not share your saved tabs or account with other customers. We may disclose information if the law requires it, or to protect the security of the service.

How long we keep it, and how to delete it

To delete the Firebase copy of your account, including synced spaces, collections, settings, and the license record tied to that account, email contact@geekmaze.in from the Google address you used to sign in, or tell us that address. We will delete it unless we must keep a limited record to comply with law or resolve a dispute.

Security

Connections to Google, Dropbox, and api.geektabs.com use HTTPS. Synced data is stored in our Firebase project, and access is limited to operating GeekTabs. No method of storage or transmission is perfectly secure.

Children

GeekTabs is not directed at children under 16, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them.

Where data is processed

Geekmaze is in India. Google Firebase and Dropbox may process data in the United States and other countries where those providers operate.

This website

The sections above are the privacy policy for the GeekTabs extension. The geekmaze.com website is a separate company site. If you use the contact form, we receive the name, email address, subject, and message you submit, and we email that message to ourselves so we can reply. That form does not add you to a mailing list.

Changes

We will post changes on this page and update the date at the top. If a change materially expands what the extension collects, it will not apply to data already stored before you have a chance to stop using the feature.
